We were told we needed reservations for breakfast ,get there they're understaffed,no menus, no manager on the weekend with a reunion going on?? No breakfast. Nice facility poorly managed ,if it wasn't for the historical value I would rate it a two star review . Disappointed.
Went for a weekend wedding for my best friend and found out my girlfriend is related to the original owners of the resort! Pretty cool! Berry Hill is very historical and well kept - a perfect place for low-key weddings. The price was great too!!! The only bad experience we had was that the spa/sauna was having work done and was unavailable for use during our stay; which the staff let us know about prior to arrival.
My son and I attending the SWCD banquet there Tuesday night. While the company and set up was wonder the food, I think, didn't meet up to the standards I was expecting. We had fried chicken, bqq (that was overly sweet), a salad and ranch with too much dill seasoning, potato salad with too many seasonings as well, cornbread, peach cobbler that was very heavy on nutmeg, and some kind of coconut brownie. The staff was super friendly but I was disappointed in the choice of food with such experienced chefs. I would eat at Darby's Tavern to give them another chance to redeem themselves though.
Bring your own bikes. The rentals are Huffy. There are decent trails on-site and a nearby rails-to-trails type along the Dan river.
Suggestions for visitors:
I would rate it 5-star if they offered breakfast room service or had a little better signage for people that drive in late like us. This place would be a SWEET destination if it offered mountain bike specific trails or clay shooting.
Nice rooms and an interesting place to spend a weekend. The food was pretty good and it's only about an hour drive from Raleigh. The pool and sauna are nice too.
Beautiful, serene place, great for relaxation. Nice pool and trails for running or biking. There are signs of neglect like peeling paint, loose doorknobs, and water damage. Despite this the overall experience and great rates make this a tremendous value.
